How to Use Ideal-Scope & ASET Scope

Using the Ideal Light

Sit the diamond in one of the two holes. Place the calibration CZ in the other hole. Centre the Ideal-Scope or ASET over one of the stones. Only look at one stone at a time. Slide the scope across to view the other stone.
Refer to the IS Reference Chart and ASET Reference Chart for grading results.

Using a Desk Lamp
Tape a piece of copy paper to the front of a lamp Pick up the diamond with tweezers. Bring the Ideal-Scope or ASET up until the tweezers just touch the pink edge Hold the Ideal-Scope or ASET very close to your eye (like a pair of glasses). The best lighting is about 3-5cm (1-2 inches) from the paper
Using a Digital Camera to take Ideal Scope Pictures
picture of camera, light and scope

You can apply some sticky tape or blue tac to attach the Ideal Scope to the lens mount of the camera.
Use a pice of plastic or glass and position the stone directly on top in the centre of the lens.
You can use the tweezer in the picture above for mounted stones.
Use a piece of plastic or glass over the lens mount to provide support for the Ideal Scope.
Note:
- Do not hold the stone inside the edge of the Ideal-Scope or ASET
- Tweezers are harder to use, but experienced graders find them faster
- Do not cover the pink plastic, hold black lens only with finger tips
- Direct bright lighting can make a individual facets shine (see example below)

unfiltered or uneven light can cause facets to shine (top right of star)
